Mat Su Borough Attorney Nick Spiropoulos is one of 7 attorneys who have applied for a seat on the Palmer Superior Court.
The Alaska Judicial Council will be evaluating the applicants to replace Judge Beverly Cutler who retires in September. Other applicants are Richard Allen, currently an assistant DA in Palmer, Christopher Canterbury, Michael Gershel, Windy Hannaman, Greg Heath and Michael Robbins.
Applicants go through comprehensive background investigation and a survey of the Alaska Bar members. Public comment on the applicants is also encouraged in the process. Residents comment to the Alaska Judicial Council. The council selects two nominees to send to Governor Palin. She will have 45 days after receiving the nominations to make the appointment.
