Willow speed musher Egil Ellis sprinted away with the champion title when he won the open class in last weekend’s Su Valley Championship sled dog races.
Willow speed musher Egil Ellis sprinted away with the champion title when he won the open class in last weekend’s Su Valley Championship sled dog races. The Montana Creek Dog Mushers held their final sled dog races at their race track on Saturday and Sunday.
Ellis fended off Fairbanks musher Arleigh Reynolds, who came in second, and Willow’s Greg Sellentin in third place.
In limited classes, Christian Taveau won the eight dog class. Anchorage’s Beverly Stevens won the six-dog event and Chugiak musher Jennifer Sterling is the four-dog class champion. Greg Jurek won the skijor title.
This event concluded the race series at the Montana Creek Dog Mushers’ Association as speed racers are now preparing for the Exxon Mobile in Anchorage. The sprint season in Southcentral Alaska then culminates with the Fur Rondy sled dog race world championships to be held end of February in Anchorage
