In Tuesday’s  primary election, Mat-Su region voters eliminated a Republican candidate from the five-way race for House District 30.

And in the three-way Senate District O race, the two Republican candidates outperformed the only Democrat. All three will appear in the November general election.

House District 30 covers Houston and Big Lake to the south and communities along the Parks Highway to the north. According to unofficial election results, the Republican incumbent Kevin McCabe led with a third of the votes cast. Democrat Sandra Loomis of Talkeetna was the runner up, followed by Republicans Doug Massie and Doyle Holmes.

Loomis says she’s excited about the results and has her work cut out for her.

Senate District O covers all of House District 30, plus most of the Matanuska Valley and Valdez. In that race, incumbent Republican George Rauscher led another Talkeetna local, Republican Ryan Sheldon. Rauscher took just under 40% of the vote. Sheldon received just over 31%. Democrat Peter Bauer followed closely behind.

Sheldon says he believes the district is ready to take an honest look into the past and apply new vision to the problems Alaskans are facing.

The primary election results are expected to be certified on August 31st.
