Election Day is less than a month away, but in-person voting in Alaska will begin even sooner.
Earlier this week, the Alaska Division of Elections published its list of early and absentee-in-person voting locations. While not every precinct’s Election Day polling place is available for early voting, there are two options in the Northern Susitna Valley. Both the Trapper Creek and Talkeetna Public Libraries will have ballots available beginning October 19th. Absentee-in-person and early voting allows an alternative for those who cannot, or do not wish to, vote by mail or in person on Election Day.
Alaska is a no excuse absentee state, which means a person voting early or absentee does not need to give a reason to do so.
The difference between absentee in person and early voting is how voter verification is conducted. For early voting, a person’s eligibility is determined at the time the vote is cast. For in person absentee, the vote is verified afterwards using information provided by the voter.
