Su-Valley Basketball Teams Place at State

The Susitna-Valley Boys and Girls Basketball teams both won 4th place at the State Basketball tournament, held in Anchorage last weekend.
In the girls’ contest, Su-Valley lost their first game to Unalakleet. The Lady Rams went on to beat Cordova, and then rallied in their final game against Metlakatla (met-luh-CAT-luh), winning 34-29. Metlakatla had come into the tournament seeded in the number one spot, but fell in the first round.
The Su-Valley Boys lost in the first round to Cordova, but came back strong, solidly beating Chevak (CHEE-vack), and narrowly defeating Wrangell in their final game.
Junior Lily Esmailka (Es-melka) was named to the Girls All-State Team and seniors, Austin Barnard and Miles Osmond were named to the Boys All-State Team,
The Su Valley Boys team was also awarded the “Alaskan Assist” Award by Alaska State Athletic Association. The award acknowledges exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship.
