The Su Valley girls basketball team took first place in the Twelfth Annual Crowley Classic tournament over the weekend. On their way to the tournament win, the Rams defeated Aniak and Unalaska before playing Lumen Christi in the championship game. The girls team currently has a record of fifteen wins and a single loss for the season. Su Valley Athletic Director James Sickler says this is the first time the girls have won their home tournament since 2014.
While the Su Valley boys did not secure the tournament championship, they finished the Crowley Classic with a winning record, defeating Aniak and Tri-Valley and losing to Unalaska. The boys are also having a successful season so far, with just one loss within the Interior Conference.
In addition to the team wins, multiple Su Valley players were recognized for individual achievements during the Crowley Classic. Senior India Roderick was named the tournament’s most-valuable player. Roderick, as well as Emma Kehoe, Bethany Kehoe, and Alana Barron were named to the girls all-tournament team. For the boys, Bryson Jolley and Tristan Shelby made the all-tournament team. Kayla Morgan was selected to the Heart and Hustle team, an award unique to the Crowley Classic named for former Su Valley coach Bruce Gunderson.
