Su Valley High School Steel Drum Ensemble takes top honors at regional competition

Su Valley High School has one of the very few steel drum bands in the state.  They performed at regional competition in Valdez and wowed the crowd in a command performance.  They head to state competition May 7th. (for the list of students and more on the competition, press read more).

Susitna Valley High School Symphonic Choir:  Nikki Bartel, Levi Basler, Matt Colon, Ambelina Cooper, Zena DeLoach, Tess Foster, Sara Hampton, Eli Hartley, Makayla Kelly, Sierra O’Connor, Dominique Scruggs, Laura Stahl.  (Did not travel – Candace Baker, Ariel Moore, Jens Timmers).

Although the steel drum band celebrates its victory it is shadowed by the disappointment that even after an outstanding and amazing performance by the women’s ensemble, the 2 groups don’t travel together to state.  The judge was a tough one and the vocal performance failed to get the nod from the judge that would allow them to perform at state competition.
