Last month, the Su Valley High School Steel Drum band received top honors at the regional competition in Valdez. The band, over the past 3 years has faced fire, lack of places to practice and a coach that went on maternity leave. They competed against over 725 students from across the state this weekend and turned in a stunning performance, not only receiving a superior rating, but played in the coveted finale of the command performance on Saturday. (the band thanks Trisha Costello of the Talkeetna Roadhouse, Steve Harrison and others, for without them, their appearance at this performance wouldn’t have been possible).
