Su Valley Voice for February 29th, 2024: Oosik Classic Ski Race and Tour

We are strapping on our skis!  

The Oosik Classic Race & Tour is upon us again.  In this episode host Trisha Costello takes a look at trail conditions and some other March events in our Talkeetna Lakes Park with Brian Robison, MSB Outdoor Recreation Specialist for the Northern District.  We also chat with Chris Mannix, longtime Talkeetna resident and member of the Denali Nordic Ski Club, about the Club’s history, the trails it maintains and early days of the Oosik. 

In the second half of the show we dip into the archives to share a few audio clips provided by Adam Verrier, founder of the Oosik, and Arthur Mannix, perhaps the biggest champion an booster of the ski club and the event.  Chelsie Valletta, current Oosik Coordinator, then joins to talk about this year’s event.
