Su Valley Will be "Cellphone Free" This School Year

Beginning Monday, September 9, 2024, Su-Valley Jr/Sr High School will be a cellphone-free space for students during the school day.

Parents were informed of the policy change earlier this week via email.

Su Valley will be using a program called Yondr.  Yondr has been used in over 2,000 schools across 16 countries to help improve student engagement in schools.

The Yondr program utilizes a secure pouch for storing the cell phone. Each students will assigned a Yondr pouch to bring to and from school each day.  Students will secure their phones in the pouch at the beginning of the school day in the presence of school staff and maintain possession of their pouch throughout the day.  Students will not be allowed to access their phones until the end of the school day. 

There is data suggesting that the program has been effective in creating a positive change in student engagement, behavior and academic performance.

Su-Valley is holding an informational meeting regarding the policy change on will be holding a parent meeting on August 21st. at 5:30 pm. During this meeting,  they will address questions and discuss the implementation of the program.
