aired 12/31 -The future of propane, laundry and showers in downtown Talkeetna is an unknown at this point. The laundry and shower business serving downtown for the last 6 months, called SUDS, is closing on January 6th. Co-Manager of SUDS, John Moses, says it was a money loser and they were just never able to make a profit. He said much of their business came from the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge and after the early Lodge shuttle to downtown stopped mid summer, the laundry business dropped dramatically. (That also coincided with the end of climbing season and end of the peak tourist season.)
Although they had a contract, Moses says that building owner Sassen Mossanen asked them to move out. John and Gale Moses have advertised their closing extensively on bulletin boards and papers to give residents time to make other plans.
Mossanen says he is unsure of the future, but hopes to continue all of the services, just with different management. He has plans to attend the Talkeetna Community Council meeting on Monday to ask input on issues that he feels important to the community.
