Sunshine Community Health Center Wins Award

Sunshine Community Health Center Wins Award

The Sunshine Community Health Center was awarded a grant of over $200,000 by The Alaska Department of Health last week.

In early August, the Department of Health announced the first projects to be awarded funds through the Rural Health Transformation Program.  The announcement begins a series of monetary awards designed to strengthen access to health care in communities across Alaska.

The Sunshine Community Health Center plans to build documentation and data infrastructure with the funds. Their goal is to document nursing care management services, which are currently being delivered, but not being tracked, nor reimbursed, under Alaska Medicaid. The data they gather will measure patient health outcomes due to those services.

The clinic hopes the data collected will support expanding the clinic's scope of services in the northern Susitna Valley.

The Rural Health Transformation Program is part of a $50 billion, five-year  initiative authorized by Congress.  Alaska was awarded over $270 million for year one, one of the largest allocations in the nation.
