Tonight we present to you a classic dessert, and a bit of a history lesson! Chocolate was discovered in Mesoamerica around 450BC and the seeds were used in fermented drinks and were valued so much, they were also a form of currency. It wasn’t until 1764 that a Dutch man discovered he could grind the seeds and add to cake batter making the first Chocolate Cake. Add in the invention of ganache about 100 years later and you have the ultimate Decadent Dessert, Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ganache and MORE Dark Chocolate Ganache Poured over it then topped with fresh chocolate covered Strawberries!

This afternoon’s decadent dessert is a marriage made in heaven. The Chocolate Guinness Cake is from a delicious recipe by celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, and baked by celebrity KTNA morning newsreader Maureen Gualtieri. Unadorned, the cake visually conjures the simple elegance of a perfect pint of Guinness: a rich dark body with a soft creamy head. In addition to the Guinness stout, the chocolate cake includes more than two sticks of butter, cocoa powder, pure vanilla, and sour cream. The cream cheese frosting is guaranteed to be the best you’ve ever eaten — a magical ratio of cream cheese, heavy cream, and powdered sugar.

(This picture is from a previous year, we’ll replace it with the current one once it’s baked!)

The cake is partnered with a sassy, sweet pint of Homemade Vanilla Fudge Swirl Ice Cream, crafted by Doug Gualtieri. Rich heavy cream, a heavy hand of homemade vanilla, with a rich fudge swirl. A perfect pairing!
