Susitna Community Council elects officers

The Susitna Community Council certified last month’s council elections and elected new officers at last Thursday’s regular meeting. Old and new council president is Robert Coleman. Vice-president is Scott Holcomb. New board member Blaine Humphries is the new secretary and Phenie Miller is stepping into the role of treasurer. Justin Koles, Terrence Shanigan and Bronn Salmon are on the board as regular members. Panic Holbrooke was elected to be an alternate member.

Coleman thanked outgoing council members Tami Hamler and Cari Sayre for their long and dedicated service to the community.

In other business, the council heard a summary of nine proposals from community members that are vying for a share of the 2009 community share revenue funds allocated to the Susitna Community Council.  The council postponed a vote on which proposals should get a share of the $20,200. Council president Coleman suggested that all council members study the proposals, meet for a work session and then vote on the most qualified proposals at the council’s next regularly scheduled meeting on January 6.

The community share revenue funds are state funds administered by the Mat-Su Borough. The money is released once communities present projects that benefit the public living in the council area. Some of the area’s community councils are currently trying to decide which projects to fund with the money.
