The Susitna Community Council unanimously voted to endorse Dan Harrell as a candidate to fill a vacancy at the Mat-Su borough’s Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory board. The Talkeetna Community Council passed a similar endorsement in support of Harrell in April.James Skinner of Caswell also runs for the district 7 seat and was nominated during the last assembly meeting by mayor Talis Colberg.
The seat became vacant when Sandy Kogl resigned last year.
The parks, recreation and trails board advises the Borough assembly and administration on the implementation, establishment, development, enforcement and maintenance of parks, trails and recreational facilities. It functions as a go-between the public and the Borough. The board is made up of 11 members. Seven members are representing each borough district and four at-large members are from the general public, who have an interest or general knowledge of parks and trails issues within the Borough. There are currently three open seats on the board.
