Susitna Council votes to start SPuD process
The Susitna Community Council has agreed to start the Special Use District planning process.
The Susitna Community Council has agreed to start the Special Use District planning process.
The council, formerly known as the Y Community Council, already has a comprehensive plan on file with the Borough, but they have never gone to the extent of formerly adopting a special use district, or SPUD.
They discussed what their priority efforts might be in the planning process. At the top of the list are possible regulations near and around watersheds as well as taking a close look at land planning at the junction of the Talkeetna Spur Road and the Parks Highway. Past discussions have centered on keeping students safe as they cross the highway at the high school as well as the on-going development at the corners of the highway junction.
After discussion on the matter, the board voted unanimously to ask the Borough to assist them in starting what they realize is a long term planning effort.
