Talkeetna Council weighs in on Borough Tower ordinance

The Talkeetna Community Council is weighing in on the recently released draft Tall Structures Ordinance from the Mat Su Borough.

The ordinance has been under revision for the past 6 months or so. The 36-page document has changes in light of regulations put forth by the Federal Communications Commission.

The Council board of directors voted to write a letter to the Borough supporting the revisions with a couple of caveats.  The council board recommends stronger setback standards for tower locations and asks that the Borough make the setback equal to the height of the tower.  In other words, they ask that a 85-foot tower would have an 85 foot setback.  The council board also asked that there be stronger language included in the ordinance for co-location.  Co-location is the term used for several cell providers using one common tower.

Any resident can comment on the draft ordinance individually.  The Tall structures ordinance can be found on the Borough website under the planning division documents.  Borough documents can also be found at area libraries.  The document covers wind generation, antannaes, cellphone towers and any other tall tower structure built in the Mat Su Borough.  Comments are due by February 24^th.
