Talkeetna Elementary School is temporarily closing its doors due to COVID-19. According to the Mat-Su Borough School District’s website, the building is closing due to outbreaks, staff absences, and substitute shortage. As of Tuesday afternoon, in-person learning is scheduled to resume on Monday, November 1st.
Thursday and Friday were already set aside for parent-teacher conferences with no classes planned on those days. Those conferences will still be held, but will take place over the phone or via Zoom instead of in-person.
Note that the school has canceled the Trunk or Treat event scheduled for Halloween on the school grounds. Instead the VFW Post 3836 will host a Trunk or Treat from 4 to 5:30 pm. Anyone who wants to host a trunk should park by 4. They will also be giving away hats, gloves, and flashlights from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
