Talkeetna Historical Society hurts for board members

The Talkeetna Historical Society is hurting for members on their board of directors.

A couple of years ago, the board went from a seven member board to a five member board.  At the beginning of this year, when there is usually an annual meeting and elections, the struggling board instead, filled outgoing member Donna Dearman’s seat with Pioneer Press owner John Moses.   Board President Rich Crain said there was no one else to fill the seat.  There wasn’t the usual annual meeting.

Now, board member Kathy Pieper has resigned her position and Crain says it looks like her husband, Danny, also a board member, is on his way out as well.

The board met Tuesday evening to discuss fundraising, board seat vacancies and the ongoing dispute with Steve Van Troba.

The board has been discussing different ways to fundraise in the absence of the Moose Dropping Festival this summer. The Society is looking at a local music CD as a fundraiser this summer and the search is underway for the top favorite songs from local musicians for a CD that will be produced early this summer.

The board voted to accept funding from Matanuska Telephone Association to hold the Mountain Mother contest on the Fourth of July weekend along with the already-scheduled VFW Moose-dropping raffle.

For the residents that have looked at the Talkeetna Historical Society website lately, Crain says that a new webmaster has been hired and that the Moose Dropping information will be removed soon.
