If you’re a customer of the Talkeetna sewer and water system, you will be receiving two additional pieces of paper with your next bill.  The first is a survey asking customers their opinions about water quality, infrastructure, and water rates.  The second sheet contains two charts breaking down the profit and loss figures for the system.  For some time now, the financials have tended more toward the loss column.  According to the provided information, costs to operate the system outstrip revenue by more than $96,000 each year.  On top of that, it has been noted by the Talkeetna Sewer and Water Advisory Board that the system lacks replacement parts in the event of a failure within the system.

The documents were produced by CRW Engineering Group.  The Group was the successful bidder for a $100,000 grant from the state of Alaska to the Mat-Su Borough to study the system and propose plans for maintaining the system, both physically and fiscally.  In addition to the survey, CRW is planning a community meeting to discuss the sewer and water system.  The meeting will be on March 25th at 6:00 pm at the Northern Susitna Institute.
