Talkeetna Skatepark Receives AARP Grant

The Talkeetna Skatepark has received an $11,000 Community Challenge grant from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

Since its debut in 2017, the AARP Community Challenge has funded almost 3,000 grants, investing over $32 million in projects nationwide, with a focus on strengthening how people of all ages live, move, and stay connected in their communities.  Nine other Alaskan organizations also received funding from the Community Challenge program this year.

With the grant, the Talkeetna Skatepark Committee says they plan to create a gathering space around the skatepark. The design includes seating and walkways around the park, encouraging intergenerational connection.  

Earlier this year the Skatepark received a grant from The Bachelor Society to create a "loaner library" of skateboards, helmets, pads, and gear.  According to the Committee, that gear has arrived and is now available for the public to checkout, Wednesday through Sunday, for no charge, from the Talkeetna Gear Shop.
