Talkeetna's Village Park to have Friday afternoon concerts

The Denali Arts Council and the Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to create a family fun activity this summer in the Talkeetna Village Park.The history of the creation of Live At Five, music in the park on Friday afternoons, began with a visit to another state, says Geri Denkewalter.  She spoke at the Denali Arts Council board meeting Monday evening.  She said that after she visited a small Tennessee town that had live music in THEIR village park, she thought it would be a perfect idea for Talkeetna.  However, it would take a year and a half to jumpstart the program here.

Fast forward to last fall, when a number of organizations were discussing how to bring back family events to the village park.  Denkewalter said kids no longer feel safe playing in the park and many residents felt like it was time to take back the park.

After a couple of tries at an agreement between the two organizations, the Arts Council and the Chamber have struck a deal that appears to make both groups happy.  Basically, the Chamber will foot the bill and the Denali Arts Council provides the musicians and sound system to make it happen.

The summer long event, Live at Five, will take place in the park every Friday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm.  The first event kicks off on June 11^th.  The last music in the park event will be on August 13^th.  Residents will be encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy live music.  The event happens rain or shine.

The Denali Arts Council will be announcing the concerts.  Residents can listen for further information as the summer draws closer.
