Top Five Web Stories for 2014

Using statistics from KTNA.org, we have put together a list of the top five most popular stories among our web users.  They run the gamut from silly to tragic.

Coming in at number five is the April Fool’s Day story that claimed Mayor Stubbs was pregnant.  While most listeners and readers were not fooled, the story still proved very popular.

The fourth most popular story on our website was the announcement of the Permanent Fund Dividend amount in mid-September.  While this year’s $1,884 was not record-setting, it was a marked improvement over the amounts over the last few years.

Our third most-clicked story was of Otis Orth, the Trapper Creek man who was rescued in large part due to his dog, Amber.  Orth had been thrown from his snowmachine, and Amber was able to eventually bring help back to him.

In second place is the story of Amber Nolan, who hitchhiked from Florida to Alaska through general aviation.  Her ultimate goal was to get to Barrow, but she didn’t quite end up making it.  Still, her story was very popular amongst KTNA listeners.

Finally, the most-clicked story of the year was a sad one.  In May, a fall from high on Denali claimed the life of one climber.  The year proved a difficult one, with the lowest summit rate in decades, but no other climbers suffered fatal accidents.
