Tractor trailer overturns on Parks Highway

Alaska State Troopers responded to a tractor-trailer rollover Friday afternoon at milepost 177 of the Parks Highway just south of Honolulu Creek.

Vernon Carlson, age 48, of Cantwell was operating a Freightliner northbound when it crossed the fogline and was pulled towards the ditch due to snow buildup.

The underside of the tanker was damaged when it overturned and went into the northbound ditch.  It is estimated that over 2500 gallons of diesel fuel spilled.  Carlson was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt.  Cantwell troopers, first responders, Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol and state DEC all responded to the call.  The fuel carrier, Big State Logistics, also responded to the scene with a spill response team.

The highway wasn’t blocked.  DEC responded to be in charge of clean up as well as investigate the accident.

The road conditions were reported icy and snow covered.   The accident is under investigation.
