Troopers enforce seatbelt laws

If you’re not in the habit of doing so already, make sure you’re buckled up when driving a vehicle. Alaska State Troopers have announced to join national enforcement mobilization efforts to crack down on unbuckled drivers and passengers.The troopers’ marching orders are to enforce the seatbelt law and to stop vehicles when the occupants are not buckled up.

In Alaska, the seatbelt law is a primary offense law. A motorist can be pulled over just for not wearing their seatbelt and issued a ticket.

Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said that as summer nears and more motorists crowd the roads, wearing the seatbelt is one simple step to dramatically increase one’s chances of surviving a crash.
