Mat Su District Superintendent George Troxel has announced his retirement to the Mat Su school board. He distributed a letter in preparation for this week’s board meeting Wednesday evening at Palmer High School. He plans on retiring at the end of the school year.
Troxel began his tenure as superintendent in July of 2007 soon after Su Valley High School burned to the ground. One of his first decisions was the temporary relocation of the high school. Previously, he was Assistant Superintendent of Education, and prior to that position, was a principal in the Mat Su School District.
The school board is expected to begin the hiring process and advertising for the superintendent position.
**Troxel says he hopes to stay in the area and even move northward to enjoy the outdoor activities he likes the most. He has spent 32 years in education and says its time to move on to something else. Troxel says that he would expect the school board to act on his request to end his contract at the December 2nd meeting. They will discuss the matter Wednesday evening.
