The Mat-Su Borough has released unofficial results from Tuesday’s election, and one seat on the Mat-Su Borough Assembly has a margin of just two votes.
The races for both Assembly District 1 and 2 both had four candidates on the ballot and no incumbent. Assembly Members Jim Sykes and Matthew Beck, who currently represent Districts 1 and 2, respectively, have reached the two-term limit for the borough assembly.
The closest race is for District 1, where Brian Endle leads Tim Hale with 983 votes to 981. In District 2, Stephanie Nowers leads Lamarr Anderson by just under 100 votes, with an election day tally of 610 to 511.
The District 2 school board race is also close, with incumbent Ray Michaelson trailing challenger James Hart by around two dozen votes. In District 5, incumbent Ryan Palmer leads Alma Hartley with 296 votes to 183. In District 7, which includes the Northern Susitna Valley, Jeff Taylor ran unopposed and received 359 votes.
Some races, especially the very close ones, may not be over. Nearly 700 absentee and more than 150 questioned ballots remain to be counted borough-wide. The canvas board will begin verifying and counting the additional ballots this week. Election certification is scheduled for November 19th.
