The first semi-organized skiing event was held on Saturday at the new ski trails at Talkeetna Lakes Park, also known as X-Y Lakes. Temperatures of ten degrees with clear skies and plenty of fresh snow made for an ideal setting for the 4th annual Sven and Ole — or Ole and Lena, or Lena and Frida — cross-country ski relay. About 30 people paired in to relay teams of two, and each team had to tell a joke at the hand-off. There were thrills and spills during the one-point-six kilometer loop, and plenty of good (and bad) Sven and Ole jokes.
Marne and Geoff won the can of Spam for best Joke. The Dan and Dave Harrell won the cheese whiz for finishing first.
