Unofficial 2022 General Election Results for the Northern Susitna Valley

Throughout Election Night, and into early Wednesday morning, KTNA and Alaska Public Media were keeping an eye on unofficial results from the day’s elections.

In Alaska House District 30, incumbent Republican Kevin McCabe holds a substantial lead with all Election Day votes counted as of early Wednesday morning. McCabe received over forty-five percent of votes counted thus far, with Holmes receiving over thirty-five percent. Democrat Joy Mindiola received just over eighteen percent of the Election Day count. Unless outstanding first-choice votes put a candidate over fifty percent, the second-choice of voters who picked Mindiola first will decide the next representative of District 30.

In Senate District O, unofficial results show incumbent Senator Mike Shower with more than fifty-one percent of the vote. Challenger and fellow Republican Doug Massie has almost forty-seven percent.

On the Mat-Su Borough Ballot, Northern Valley voters were presented with two options for the school board. After Election Day, Ted Swanson leads Christiana Sitbon with fifty-nine percent of the vote.

Also on the borough ballot, the “yes” votes for Proposition One are leading by a nearly three-to-one margin. That ballot proposition would require any borough ordinance regulating the discharge of firearms outside the city limits to be approved by borough voters.

All of the results reported thus far are considered unofficial until certified.  In state races with more than two candidates, many results won’t be known until November 23^rd, when the Alaska Division of Elections conducts its ranked choice voting calculations.

There was one election with certified results as of Tuesday night.  The Talkeetna Community Council election results were sent to KTNA a little after 9:00 pm.  With five candidates for five seats, Jodi Rodwell, Jon Korta, Maleia Grabinski, Pam Young, and Jeffry Hesse all won seats on the board of directors.
