The Epidemiology division of the Alaska Department of Health and Human Services concluded their 2011 to 2012 survey of influenza cases, and the majority of confirmed flu cases in Alaska took place between April and June. This is a break in a five-year trend that saw most cases of the flu fall between December and March. The Epidemiology division doesn’t have an explanation for last year’s late season, but the survey results hasn’t changed the department’s encouragement for people to get flu vaccines.
