Village Park Restroom Upgrades
Talkeetna’s Village Park restroom is due soon for a new ADA-accessible sidewalk and landscape remediation around the facility.
The park restrooms have received several improvements over the years, including the installation of new toilets in April 2024 with the help of Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funding. Borough Parks Outdoor Recreation Specialist Brian Robison said the initial funding was not enough to carry out all aspects of the plan.
Robison said a second round of CIP funding in 2025 allowed for the successful relocation of the old vault toilets to Whigmi Trailhead. Now, the Borough is looking to make new upgrades with a third round of funding secured in July 2026. It plans to install a new sidewalk and landscaping, as well as an ADA-accessible picnic table.
Any remaining funds will be used to restore the grass and improve the landscaping.
Robison said, from a community perspective, it’s important to have safe and accessible public facilities.
The Borough is in the process of engaging contractors to complete the project, but is up against the clock as winter approaches. If all goes according to plan, these improvements will be completed this fall.
