The Talkeetna Water and Sewer Utility has had a tumultuous year. Now the utility faces a new setback when water and waste water operator Mike Kilgo unexpectedly submitted his resignation last week.

The Mat Su Borough office of Human Resources says they received Kilgo’s resignation by email on October 17th. In his resignation, Kilgo said he would be leaving his position, effective immediately. No explanation has been given for his departure, but the Talkeetna Water and Sewer Utility has had a year fraught with conflict over rate increases, loan repayment for capital projects, meter installation at business and residences, and potential shortages of equipment to keep the waste water system running properly.

The borough will be issuing a hiring announcement shortly, and the Talkeetna Water and Sewer Board is encouraging them to hire locally. The borough is waiting to hear back from the Department of Environmental Conservation about the minimum requirements for the position, and the Water Board has asked whether a local resident without the various skills and certificates required might be eligible for training.
