Weather breaks records across the state

Much of the state is under winter storm or high wind warnings.

Talkeetna broke a record today (Friday) as temperatures went above the record 39 degrees set in 1992.

Anchorage and Turnagain Arm are expecting 100 mile per hour wind gusts through Saturday.  Anchorage broke a heat record this morning  (Friday)  when the Chinook winds forced temperature to 50 degrees above zero.

The Susitna Valley does not have any current warnings, except locally conditions in downtown Talkeetna continue to be treacherously icy.  Drivers and pedestrians alike should be extremely cautious in parking areas and along main street. 

Areas north of Talkeetna are expecting 80 mile an hour winds Friday and Saturday as temperatures reach close to 45 degree Farenheit.

Other areas of the state have had record precipitation the last 2 days. In Kotzebue, they have had record breaking snowfall.  In areas near Craig, in southeast Alaska, some communities have been cut off due to flood stage waters.  Kodiak set a new record rainfall on Wednesday.
