Whigmi Trailhead Toilets Included in CIP

The Mat-Su Borough Assembly approved the Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal year 2026, which includes twelve priority projects for the next six years. Ranked at number four is the Whigmi Trailhead Toilet project.

As part of the project, Borough Parks and Recreation intends to install refurbished toilets at the Whigmi Trailhead. It’s one of the most popular starting points for trail users in the Talkeetna area. Since the restrooms in the Village Park were updated, the old vault toilets can be shifted into use elsewhere.

Borough Parks Outdoor Recreation Specialist Brian Robison says he is excited to complete the Village Park project by removing the old toilets and to expand services and facilities at Whigmi Trailhead.

Borough Environmental Engineer Mike Campfield says the project is expected to cost about $100,000. With the Borough’s typical budget of $500,000 per year dedicated toward CIP projects, he says the Whigmi Trailhead may get toilets in 2026. However, it will require allocation of the funds to start the design process.
