Rogers sentenced to another 189 years

by Sue Deyoe ~ January 12th, 2010

The much-delayed sentencing of Christopher Erin Rogers Jr. finally occurred in Judge Vanessa White’s courtroom in Palmer this afternoon.

The judge added 189 years to Roger’s 309-year prison sentence that was handed down in Anchorage in November.

The 2007 case involved murders and other attacks.  Rogers walked into his father’s bedroom with a machete and brutally attacked Rogers Sr. and his financee, past Talkeetna resident, Lennie Moran, as well as the family’s dog.  He left the Palmer home after the attacks and headed to Anchorage, where he randomly attacked and killed Jason Wenger, shot Wilderness Woman winner Liz Rumsey, and assaulted architect Tamas Deak.

The Palmer jury found him guilty of murder, animal cruelty, attempted murder and several other charges in December 2008. The Anchorage jury found him guilty of murder, attemped murder, robbery and assault in April 2009.

Rogers has been sentenced to a total of 498 years in prison. Palmer DA Roman Kalytiak  says that likelihood of parole is slim considering he might not face parole for another 55 years.

Rogers is also facing a civil suit in a personal injury case filed by Lennie Moran. Moran was brutally attacked and severely injured in the 2007 attempted murder. That case is set to be heard mid-February in Palmer.
