Denali State Park Trail management plan work continues

Work is continuing on the Denali State Park Trail Management Plan according to spokesperson Claire Holland LeClaire.

About 30 individuals commented during the scoping portion of the review.  LeClaire will continue meeting with interested individuals and recently met with a group of concerned citizens in the Upper Valley.

She plans on meeting fairly regularly with individuals to obtain information on trails including cultural and biological resources.  She says that even though the comment period is officially over, residents who have not yet submitted comments, but have information on the state park to share, can still submit information.  If people want to be involved with the planning effort, they can write her at denalitrails@alaska.gov

The plan, when complete, is expected to set guidelines and make recommendations for trail development and maintenance for all of Denali State Park.  The state is working in conjunction with the planning for the proposed South Denali Visitor Center to have trail planning in place before development on that project begins.

LeClaire says the trail plan is still on schedule.  The next step is a draft plan, which is expected to be out for public review in late spring or early summer
