A new art gallery is coming to downtown Talkeetna. Resident Troy Smiley formerly announced his purchase of the vacant lot across from the Fairview, previously owned by Tim Costello, during the Talkeetna Community Council meeting Monday evening.
He said he and his wife, Stacey, are planning an art gallery that will house and sell art from around Alaska.
The announcement was well received by the Council Board of Directors and 18 or so attendees at the meeting. When asked about the height of the proposed building, he said he had examined the downtown Special Use District information and said his plan was to construct a building several feet lower than the Fairview Inn.
He said a temporary structure will be in place on the property this summer. This fall they have plans to dig up either Main Street or D street to connect to water and sewer lines. He wants to wait until the tourist season is over before disrupting traffic to any great length.
His hope is to have the new building open next summer.
