The crash of a C-17 military cargo plane on Wednesday evening near the Elmendorf Air Force base killed four crewmembers and also damaged railroad tracks, forcing closure of the railroad section. (more…)

Decision handed down in Denali bear shooting

In May, for the first time in history, a bear was shot and killed by a visitor in Denali National Park. The result of that incident was a two month long discussion by park officials in a precedent setting case.  The final determination has been made and the couple from North Pole, AK will not be charged.

Power outage in Talkeetna due to tree limb

A number of businesses and residents in Talkeetna were without power on Tuesday afternoon and evening.  MEA spokesperson, Cheryll Heinze, says the culprit was a downed tree that fell on a power line on Veterans’ Way.  (more…)

This is the time of the year when owners of lifestock fill up their hay barns with the new crop. But Valley farmers agree that this is one of the worst summers. Long periods of rain have hampered the valley hay harvests and the maturing of all other crops.
