Talkeetna arrest draws in National Geographic film crew

Alaska State Troopers responded to an incident in downtown Talkeetna on Saturday afternoon.

For the second time in one week, 30 year old Aaron Ober was arrested and taken to Mat Su Pretrial.  Last Tuesday, Troopers say he was intoxicated and fighting in the Village Park. He was arrested and told not to return to the Village Park or he would be charged with trespassing.

Saturday, Troopers responded to a call in the Talkeetna Village Park. They were accompanied by PST Films, who have contracted through National Geographic to film the show, Alaska State Troopers.  Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters says the show is a documentary type of show featuring the Troopers and the job they do in Alaska.  The film crew follows the Troopers on their various routes.

Dozens of tourists as well as local residents gathered at the park to witness the filming of the arrest on Saturday. The episode will likely be part of season 2 of “Alaska State Troopers” this fall.

The incident is connected to the ongoing Village Park discussion that has taken place at community council and Chamber of Commerce meetings over the past 12 months. This spring the Chamber of Commerce worked to push the undesirable contingent away from the park with their live at five concert series; another group began meeting to play in the park on Sundays with hula hoops. Other non scheduled groups have gotten together for family events in the Park.

According to Troopers, Ober is no longer allowed in the Village Park and will be charged with criminal trespass if he is seen there.
