NPS proposes climber fee increase

by Diana Haecker ~ January 20th, 2011

Denali National Park officials are examining the possibility of raising mountaineering fees for those climbers wishing to climb Denali.  While the majority of Americans are probably not paying too much attention, the mountaineering community across the U.S. is weighing in and putting their boots down on the issue that concerns North America’s highest peak.  Sue Deyoe has more.

Climbers, quit whining, even Disneyland had to raise prices. People risk their lives getting your sorry &$); off the mountain when you stub your toe. I guess it’s free if you want to climb Everest.

Next year I’m going up Denali with a group of wounded vets with prosthetics for limbs. They won’t be whining about stubbed toes. US mountaineers are the most highly skilled, knowledgable user group in the back country. Many got into climbing because the mountains were free. The fee people haven’t figured out how to charge for the waves yet. That’s why I’ve turned to surfing.
