Troopers respond to numerous accidents over the Fair weekend

A number of arrests related to the Palmer State Fair occurred over the weekend.

A collison occurred at 7 pm Sunday on the Glenn Highway.  Stephanie Smith, age, 38 of Anchorage was on her way home from the Fair, and tried to pass a car driven by Tammy Dupree, age 45, also of Anchorage, who was stopped and attempting a turn.  Smith lost control and crossed into the southbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by a 20 year old Anchorage man, Austin Makowski.  Smith and her passenger both suffered severe injuries and were transported to Mat Su Regional.  Further investigation showed the other driver, Dupree, was under the influence of alcohol.

The Troopers are still investigating the crash and want anyone who witnessed the accident and was not contacted on the scene by the Troopers to contact them.

Another accident on the Glenn Highway occurred earlier Sunday afternoon. One individual from Anchorage was transported to the hospital with injuries.  An Anchorage driver was cited for following to close behind another vehicle.

Other arrests and accidents include a Palmer woman who was arrested and transported to Mat Su Pre Trial for texting-while-driving and driving while intoxicated.

Not related to the Fair, a tractor-trailer accident closed the Parks Highway at milepost 176, north of Hurricane Gulch, last Thursday. The highway was closed intermittently for 6 hours.  59-year-old Thomas Colby of Palmer, was driving a semi tractor northbound. The weight of trailer load tipped the tractor and the vehicle and trailer slid 100 feet along the northbound land before stopping.  DEC responded to the scene to oversee the cleanup of oil and diesel. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at 50-thousand dollars, damage to the guardrail and highway was estimated at 20-thousand dollars.  Colby was issued a citation for speeding.
