All season long, the VFW Men’s Auxillary has been grilling hundreds of pounds of burgers and hot dogs during Sunday and Monday Football Games. This past Monday Night, the Redskins were down by 6 in the 3rd Quarter, and more than 20 burgers had already come off the grill. At five bucks a burger on Monday nights, VFW Men’s Auxiliary president Rick Shear says the organization has already made a big down-payment on two charities.
With four weeks left in the NFL’s regular season, the Men’s Auxiliary hopes to raise another thousand dollars for Wounded Warriors, before turning some funds back towards the VFW Post 3836 for some needed improvements and renovation work around the building. Through combined efforts of the Men’s and Women’s Auxiliaries, in two years the post has already seen a number of fixes, and Shear says more are on the way.
The Burgers and dogs will be on the grill through playoffs and during the Super Bowl Party, and Shear says after that the Auxiliaries will continue to look for ways to turn a good time for the community in to some good works for those in need.
The Redskins, by the way, made a 4th quarter touchdown to beat the Giants 17-16.
