Winter concert at Su Valley High

by admin default ~ December 13th, 2012

The Su Valley Winter Concert starts on Thursday night, the Junior Concert Band and Senior Symphonic Bands will perform a selection of songs, and the Choir will sing arrangements for the holidays.
Several of the students in this weeks concert will be headed to California in March. KTNA’s Lorien Nettleton spoke with one student, and has this report:

Sack Check is in eleventh grade. He has been in Band for three years, and he is one of the students who will be heading to California in March to record and practice with the University of Southern Californai Annaheim’s choir. Check says the opportunity is something he’s been looking forward to since seventh grade.

Check says the chance to get one-on-one tutoring for four days in Southern California from professional musicians will be unlike anything he’s done before. The students going on the trip have been heavily involved in a variety of fundraising activities to pay for it, including hair salons, a mystery dinner, and bake and book sales. Check says the fundraising has definitely made his participation in the trip possible

More fundraisers are on the way for early spring, such as a History of Rock-n-roll dinner in January or February.

Check adds that recent budget cutbacks have reduced the amount of time teachers have for lessons at Su VAlley. In his three years the music instruction has been cut in half.

The Su Valley Winter Concert starts at 7 pm on Thursday night
