Man takes own life in Troopers’ parking lot

by Lorien Nettleton ~ January 29th, 2013

A man took his own life in the parking lot of the Talkeetna Trooper Post on Monday. According to the Alaska State Troopers Report, Glenn Massay, age 81, of Trapper Creek, drove to the Talkeetna State Trooper Post where he took his own life with a firearm at approximately 10:30 am. EMS responded and found Massay was still alive, and began CPR. Massay later died before Life Med could arrive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

According to the webpage for ConsortiumLibrary.org, Glenn F. Massay was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania in 1931. He earned degrees in history from California State College , and in 1970 attained a PhD from West Virginia University. Massay moved to Alaska in 1974, where he became the Director of Matanuska-Susitna College and retired from that position in 2003.

From 1996 to 1998, he was project director of the “Alaska Governors and Senators Oral History Project,” during which he recorded interviews with former Alaska governors and state senators to inquire into their changing political relationships.
