After geotechnical inspection resulted in questionable soil stability and a potential ground contamination issue at the selected site for a new library, the community responded quickly to decide which direction to go. The friends of the Talkeetna Library conducted a survey over three days to gauge people’s preference on a number of locations. The survey results showed overwhelming community support for selecting a different location rather than dealing with a potentially contaminated building site.
Community Development Director for the Mat Su Borough Eric Phillips says the Borough is moving quickly on the new site. An Architect is already coming up with a preliminary site design for the the new location.
in next 48 hours the architect will be turned loose and will come back with some options. In all, Phillips says the problem hasn’t caused a delay to the process.
The Borough’s budget has yet to be released, but bakers for the Library are hopeful that the final portion of funding for the construction will be included.
