Burn suspension in effect again

Mon AM -A fire weather watch has been issued today for the Susitna Valley, the Matanuska Valley and the Western Kenai Pennisula.

The red flag warning issued is due to increasing low humidity and warmer weather.  The forestry officials have again instituted a suspension of open burning permits including the use of burn barrels.  Campfires and cooking fires are not under the suspension, but are highly discouraged.

The fire near Homer on East End Road is now a little over one thousand acres.  The Division of Forestry is now calling the fire one hundred percent contained.  Rain on Friday helped efforts tremendously according to the Division of Forestry.  Three houses and a couple of outbuildings were lost in the fire.  Crews may be putting out hotspots and mopping up for days, and possibly weeks.
