Billion slough bridge open to pedestrian traffic

The Alaska Railroad has completed work at the pedestrian bridge over Billion Slough. Railroad foreman Steve Summer reported that the pedestrian side of the bridge is back in service. The bridge had been long-term project that sat unfinished for a year and a half. The project had experienced delays as other railroad projects were deemed more important to finish.

Summer said that work included removing the old pedestrian bridge, installing a couple of new approach spans and installing a new walkway. A crew of six railroad workers completed the project on schedule, in a week’s time.
