Su Valley sprint competition ends racing season

The Su Valley Championship Spring Sled Dog Race was held this last weekend, culminating this year’s racing season.  Thirty-three mushers, five ski-jorers and hundreds of dogs competed in the two-day event.

Salcha musher Arleigh  Reynolds beat out Egil Ellis in the open class race.  The winner’s time was a combination of the two-day event and Reynolds topped Ellis by only three seconds.

A strong showing of Fairbanks mushers meant domination in the 8-dog class.  Jennifer Probert took first place in the 8-dog class and Amanda Byrd came in second.

Top mushers in the ski-jor and the 4 and 6- dog classes were from Wasilla and Anchorage.    Kris Rasey of Anchorage won the 6-dog class by 24 seconds over Fairbanks musher Ami Gjeston.  Rebecca Knight of Wasilla won the ski-jor event and Kim Wells of Anchorage won the 4-dog class.
