Su Valley students compete in state ski championships in Fairbanks

Two Su Valley high school students competed in the High School Nordic Ski Championships in Fairbanks over the weekend.

Sophomore Morgan Michels skied to 34th place on Thursday in the 5-K, and to 36th place on Friday in the classic ski.   She received runner up medals in the 1A-2A-3A division.  Morgan placed 13th among the freshman and sophomores in the state.  Coach Ed O’Connor says it bodes very well for Morgan’s future ski career, especially since she plans to spend next year in Norway as an exchange student.

Freshman Christone Susky  was skiing in his first few races.  Coach O’Connor says Susky worked hard all season to take his place in the varsity field at the championships. He beat several skiers from much larger schools. He came in 120th out of a field of 125 on Thursday and placed 114th out of a field of 120 in the classic ski on Friday.

The championships wrap up the ski season for the small Su Valley team.
