Does leash law enforcement spell the end of good times for Talkeetna’s dogs?

Several reports of people being bitten by dogs in downtown Talkeetna has prompted Animal Control to post signs around town reminding people to keep their dogs on a leash.

The signs remind businesses, the public at large, and specifically dog owners that loose dogs running in the street are a violation of borough code. Should Animal Control impound the dogs, it could mean a hundred-dollar fine and a trip to Palmer to retrieve the dog.

Last week Alaska Wildlife Troopers recovered a day-old moose calf that had been separated from its mother after being chased and injured by loose dogs.
